Today I was watching Desperate Housewives Season 5 Episode 9 and the last few minutes involving a scene between Carlos and Gaby just moved me to tears. A doctor told Carlos that he could regain his sight as they found a tiny bone fragment pressing on his optic nerve which made him blind 5 years ago. Gaby panicked because she has, in her opinion, lost her looks after giving birth to two daughters. But the upside for her was that she was married to a blind man so it didn't matter. Initially the surgery was scheduled a month away but the doctor announced the surgery can be moved forward to next Friday. So Gaby overstrained herself with workout sessions til she was in pain when she got in bed next to Carlos. After confessing her fears, Carlos asked whether she remembered when he decided to propose to her.
Gaby: When you saw me walking down that runway
Carlos: No, that was when I wanted to have sex with you
He then proceeded to tell her bout a dinner they had in a restaurant where she ordered a huge plate of ribs and finished it, with ribs hanging off her teeth, barbeque sauce on her lips and grease in her air, but she looked so happy. And when he said she was such a mess, she pulled out a mirror and laughed when she looked at herself, such a big laugh that it filled the whole restaurant, and that's when he knew he wanted to hear that laughter for the rest of his life.

Gaby: Do you know when I decided I wanted to spend forever with you? 2 seconds ago

That's just the sweetest thing ever!

Perhaps this is a fear that resonates among people with good looks as Amanda in Ugly Betty also said, "You're lucky Betty coz you'll know when people fall in love with you. I'll never know if they just like me coz I'm pretty"
Of course I know I'm not a good looker at all but it really warms my heart when I'm told that I'm beautiful =) like how Daniel told Betty when she was broken up over a boy and said people will only tell her that she's beautiful 'on the inside' but Daniel firmly told her, "You're beautiful" =))
