Earworm: Ain't No Mountain High Enough~~The Temptations
So, an Oscar contender for Best Picture... one word: Overhyped memorable quote:[after one wild night of passion] Ennis: y'know, I ain't queer. Jack: Me neither. next night proceed to kiss-wrestle each other again ok, so i get it, it's a movie that's a tad verbally challenged. more physical in being. i admit my weakness in interpreting cowboy accents. Heath Ledger got a nomination for Best Actor for his suppressed emotions, at times breaking to reveal a softer side. I preferred Jake Gyllenhaal's performance thought, more emotive. Liked the part where he shouted at his father in law who insisted on spoiling his grandson. so back to the initial criticism--overhyped. so its an unconventional love story, with all the sordid details (humping, skinny dipping), but it's not an entirely new premise is it? I was promised an emotional, heartbreaking journey, not so much as a moving ending per se, which was a bit ambiguous too. can't say that much about the body, the 20 or so years that transpired. but the scene where Ennis smells Jack's shirt, it was tragic. love lost. In response to a comment in the local newspaper about the actresses having a bad year in 2005 because the Best Picture nominees are male-centric films with females relegated to neglected wives, I, for one believe that Michelle Williams outdid the two male leads here. Maybe I'm just homophobic(which i'm not really) but i was moved by her driven performance, I really felt for her. Not that much for Anne Hathaway so u can't say im just siding with the females. not a feminist anyway. Brokeback Mountain: I loved the scenery Rating: 2.5/5
