    Title : Love Dates
    Time : 2:54 pm

Earworm: Love Is In The Air~~John Paul Young
Currently reading: The Rule of Four~~Ian Caldwell and Dustin Thomason

Read with much amusement the article in Clove (Feb 1, 2006) about 'love dates' celebrated by couples in South Korea. Read the full article.

"Jan 14 is Diary Day in South Korea when sweethearts are encouraged to buy gifts such as planners and mark all their red-letter days of love."
ok get your pens ready lest you face the wrath of your beloved for forgetting that weekly/monthly/yearly 'anniversary', *gasp* Valentine's Day, or the day you first held hands, went on a date, kissed, watched a movie together, fought and made up... oh the list is endless, a planner is just what a couple needs!

"Next on the calendar is Feb 14 and Valentine’s Day, where South Korean women buy chocolates for their boyfriends."
"March 14 is White Day. This celebration was born in Japan, imported to South Korea and is marked by South Korean men returning the favour of their Valentine’s chocolates with candies for their girlfriends."
Okayyy.... additional dates for the planner since they can't give each other gifts on Valentine's Day.

"April 14 is Black Day and is purely Korean. This is a day where those who have not found love mark their status as lonely hearts by eating black food.
The dish for the day is Chinese noodles topped with a thick black sauce. Single students at universities order scores of bowls and eat them together in the hope of finding a soul mate over noodles."

Cue: Cruel mocking laughter from my sister and me. Oh alright, just because we aren't single doesn't mean we have the right to poke fun at the poor South Koreans who desperately are, never mind how wallowing in self pity all that sounds. Shame on us! (slaps self) But whatever happened to free-spirited swinging singles? Imagine a new Korean romance movie--Noodlestruck or Success Story of a Noodle couple.

"May 15 is Yellow Day-Rose Day. Lonely hearts gather for curry and companionship. Those who find love by this day exchange roses. Dressing in yellow is also recommended."
    But of course.

"Aug 14 Green Day: when couples are supposed to dress in green, walk in the woods and drink cheap liquor that comes in green bottles."
Why even one of my favourite rock bands' name is reduced to a love date

"On Silver Day, couples can freely ask their friends to give them money to pay for a date while couples are supposed to exchange gifts made of silver."
Now this is a date to take advantage of! yes,rip off the singles!

"Nov 11 is Pepero Day and is named after a pencil-shaped cookie stick covered in chocolate that is purchased in abundance on the day and exchanged mostly by young South Koreans as an expression of their affection."
    how cute. sweet, really.

Now I don't mean to be so cynical about all these dates, it's all in good fun. after all we celebrate every 3rd of the month too, to the bemusement of my parents.
