Title : Review: King Kong
Time : 10:23 pm
Earworm: Heard 'em say~~Kanye West and Adam Levinewith all the good reviews i had read, naturally my expectations were high. unfortunately, they were not met. nowhere near the spectacular blockbuster i was anticipatingmost people say the first hour on the boat was a drag. thats an understatement the whole movie was a lengthy monster fest. in fact, i preferred the first hour(tho the man next to me was already snoring lightly at this time) to the disgusting monster fest that peter jackson so gleefully unleashed onto the audience. the whole thing was over the top really. not one T Rex but three! and they did not perish when they fell down the ravine...no all THREE had to be snappin their jaws at female lead Ann Darrow (Naomi Watts) or getting pounded by Kong. then came the giant bugs and nasty man sucking worms (that was the most vomit inducing scene) swallowing lumpy's head whole. that's andy serkis btw. was expecting more of the humanesque expressions of Kong but that was minimal. he was attracted to Ann because she tap danced for him? I was not rooting for him at all. I was looking forward to the 'tragic' end. nonetheless there were some amusing scenes and humour interspersed. critics praised Watts for her acting but her expression to me was only of sadness. To quote Carl Denham(Jack Black), "You're the saddest girl I've ever seen!" and of course the special effects should be commended tho it was an overindulgence, so much so that it got tiresome. i am not one for monster flicks. it should be at least based on some human relationships. which i find lacking in this film albeit for the on and off romance between Ann and Jack Driscoll (Adrien Brody). some loose ends were also not tied up. like the origin of Jimmy (Jamie Bell). what happened to the captain...etcso i was not impressed. peter jackson, you've come a long way down from LOTR(although it's not a very fair comparison). sigh. Rating: 2.5/5
